The sign on the door announces that Chedd’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese, 1906 Pearl Street, is “closed for remodeling until further notice,” but a call to the joint’s local headquarters resulted in a more concrete announcement — namely a disconnected phone line. And a peek through Chedd’s dirty windows shows a floor strewn with old license plates, pictures and a lone cow statue that doubled as Chedd’s mascot when this first location opened six years ago to rave reviews.

It’s bad news if you live in Littleton, too, because the second Chedd’s that stood at 8966 West Bowles Avenue has also disappeared.

But if you live in Austin, Texas, the Chedd’s that opened there in July is still stacking sandwiches with Wisconsin’s finest cheeses.
