Singapore-born violinist Kailin Yong calls himself a “fiddler for peace,” and he does so without a shred of irony or self-consciousness; in 2003, Yong was even awarded year-long possession of the Daniel Pearl Memorial Violin, an instrument built in the memory of the American reporter slain by terrorists (Pearl was a fine fiddler himself). Now Yong, a world-wanderer who settled in Boulder several years ago, playing with the Boulder Acoustic Society and other local ensembles, will share his peaceful leanings at the Daniel Pearl World Music Days Concert tonight at 8 p.m. at Swallow Hill Music Hall, 71 East Yale Avenue. Along with an array of special guests — including Middle Eastern percussionist Souhail Kaspar, musical missionary Cameron Powers and world/jazz musicians Jesse Manno and Dexter Payne — Yong hopes to spread his message through music in conjunction with a series of national concerts performed in Pearl’s name.
Tickets range from $15 to $18; go to www.swallowhill.com or call 303-777-1003. For more information about Daniel Pearl World Music Days, visit www.danielpearlmusicdays.org.
