There’s no business like snow business.

Aspen has been celebrating Winterskol, its “toast to winter,” since 1951, as a way to perk up the dull weeks after Christmas. But while the 2012 Winterskol is still months away (it runs from January 12-15), discussion of the upcoming event has been anything but dull. In fact, it’s been to die for.

The Aspen Chamber, which sponsors the winter carnival, had held a contest to come up with a slogan in keeping with the event’s “end of the world theme” for 2012 (after all, the Mayan calendar predicts big things for next year) — but the winner, “To Die For,” was deemed “too sensitive.” And so last week came this announcement from the chamber:

ASPEN CHAMBER ANNOUNCES CONTEST RE-LAUNCH FOR OFFICIAL WINTERSKÖL 2012 SLOGAN

ASPEN, Colo. (Oct. 28, 2011) – The Wintersköl Committee and Aspen Chamber Resort Association (ACRA) have announced that they are accepting new submissions for the official slogan for the 61st annual Wintersköl celebration, Jan. 12 – 15, 2012. Following are the parameters for the slogan contest:

Wintersköl Contest Rules: – Be creative! – Slogan entries are due Friday, Nov. 4 by 5 p.m. – Limit of five (5) entries per person. – Slogan must be a one to five word phrase to fit on three – inch Wintersköl Button. – E-mail entries to Julie Hardman, Special Events Manager, at jhardman@aspenchamber.org.

The winning slogan will appear on official Wintersköl merchandise and in print and broadcast promotional materials.

The winner will receive one (1) pass to the 2012 FOOD&WINE Classic in Aspen. (*Food & Wine Associate Pass is valid for all Grand Tastings; Seminars on a space-available basis only)
