Just two days before Thanksgiving, a terrible tragedy befell the family of Sarah and Julie Slater, creators of Denver’s essential Titwrench festival and two of this town’s biggest proponents of our precious, ever-blooming DIY scene. The home of their parents underwent a devastating house fire that has left the family — although safe and healthy — financially crippled with only a limited insurance policy to back them up, although no amount of money could recover something so priceless as the home you’d built a life in for thirty years.

But the Slaters persevere, and they could use your help. Titwrench MC Piper Rose will graciously donate her time and yoga expertise to hold a benefit class, cleverly called “Showga” (show + yoga – get it?) for stretcher-posers of any skill level at the Mercury Cafe this Saturday, Dec. 11 at 10:30 a.m. The class will feature some soothing, meditative sounds from Astral Glamour, a band comprising of Pee-Pee’s Doo Crowder and Esther Hernandez. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the Slater family and donations of any size are welcome.
