Last week, I got a phone call from Amanda, a lovely woman doing research for the Guy Fieri Food Network show, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. The company that produces the show was giving Denver a serious look-see — trying to assemble a list of restaurants for Guy to hit — and Amanda was wondering if I had any suggestions.

I did, of course. Keeping in mind that the show features places with some history, as well as killer, cheap food and the ability to be at least loosely classified in one of the three categories mentioned in the title (a diner, a drive-in or a dive), I offered up a few of my faves.

Bud’s Bar?  Absolutely. Second-best cheeseburgers in America.
Bastien’s
? It’s all about the sugar steak, baby — the fact that
the dining room still looks like a leftover set from some long-lost
episode of Playboy’s Penthouse.

I also suggested Steuben’s (that joint
is made for TV), La Fiesta (I am madly in love with the chile caribe)
and Oshima Ramen, just because I would love to see Guy pull up in
front of that place in his ’67 Camaro and make a face as he wonders, “What the fuck was that kid Jason thinkin’?”

Anyway,
long story short, Amanda is still looking for a few more ideas. So I have
decided to turn this question over to you, my loyal readers. Should
D,D&D decide to do a show in Denver, where would you guys send
Guy?  Keep in mind the title, the set-up and requirements of the show
(no picking Fruition, in other words, and the first one of you who suggests The Fort or the Buckhorn is getting a sock in the nose). Your picks should also be within reasonable distance of the Denver area. Even
though there ain’t much left on the Food Network these days that I
like, I dig Guy’s show a lot, so let’s see if we can’t do
right by him.

Okay… go!
