Carla Ladd of Denver Black Pages says that local artists Phaedra High, Kalina Ross and Dominique Renshaw of Urban Cipher wanted to create an event where people could buy last-minute holiday gifts and small businesses could get their names out. The result, co-sponsored by the Black Pages, is the Sip and Shop Holiday Fundraiser, featuring wares from such vendors as Baklava Unlimited, Kim Harrell Silversmith & Jewelry Design and organizer Urban Cipher — which will all be on hand to talk shop. “We’re hoping that small businesses will network and really start supporting each other in their business efforts,” explains Ladd.
It’s all part of Urban Cipher’s mission. Each vendor will have the chance to give a sixty-second pitch to the crowd while patrons visit the cash bar and shop for goods and services like massages, jewelry, scarves and more. At the same time, the event will collect money at the door to support the Greater Good Academy and the Denver Urban League Young Professionals, which both offer training and support for young entre-preneurs.
The Sip and Shop Holiday Fundraiser runs from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the Parkside Mansion, 1859 York Street. There’s a requested $10 donation at the door, but no one will be turned away. For more information, visit urbancipher.wix.com/sipandshop2012 or denver-blackpages.com.
