Memo to Denver radio’s traffic reporters: The local metropolitan area actually extends west of the I-25 corridor.
As a resident of the Ken-Caryl Ranch area who’s commuted downtown for sixteen years, I know from bitter personal experience that many traffic updates simply overlook the section of C-470 that runs along the foothills. Why? Got me. After all, the communities that border this thoroughfare on either side continue to grow, as witnessed by the worsening traffic. Yet this fact seems to have escaped the notice of traffic watchdogs — and this morning offers a prime example. An accident near the Morrison exit created a jam between five and ten miles long just prior to 8 a.m., and had I known, I would have taken an alternate route. Unfortunately, though, the traffic reporters at KOA-AM/850 and AM-950/The Fan made no mention of this problem. Their oversight cost me more than fifteen minutes of my life — and while I did receive a booming headache back in return, I don’t really consider that to be a fair trade.
So consider this to be a desperate plea to Denver’s helicopter jockeys. Look west! You may be surprised at what you’ll find. — Michael Roberts
