Anyone who’s created a restaurant can tell you that there are many obstacles along the way to the actual opening. And that’s something the folks behind Cold Crush — a new spot going into 2700 Larimer Street in the hot, hot Ballpark neighborhood — are rapidly learning. Their plans to open this weekend have been crushed; they just had to push the opening back at least four to six weeks because of construction problems.

The combo restaurant/art gallery/music venue is being crafted by model/DJ Cassie Stevens and three guys obsessed with music and art — general manager Eric Cunningham, owner Brian Mathenge and Mu$a Bailey, a local musician, DJ and producer — and owes its name to the late-’70s hip-hop group Cold Crush Brothers.
When it opens, it will feature a menu created by Sterling Robinson of Billy’s Inn. “We might be a bar, but this is going to be a bar with really good, fresh, homemade food,” says Cunningham.

Cunningham grew up in the neighborhood, and says the people behind Cold Crush just they wanted to create a gathering place for the community. “We’re always down here and have major ties with this neighborhood,” he told us last month. “We’re from here and think that this is a perfect place to celebrate how much we love this area.”
Just don’t start celebrating yet. Look for Cold Crush to heat up at the end of May.
