When Governor John Hickenlooper was at the National Governors Association Taste of America Gala in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, he saw a familiar face: Tyler Wiard, culinary director of Elway’s Restaurant Group, who was there to champion Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign.

And no one who stopped by Wiard’s booth — where he was serving chile-braised short rib tacos with tomatillo-chile de arbol salsa in Elsa’s homemade corn tortillas — went away hungry.

Nine chefs were providing food at the event, but Wiard was the chefs’ representative, and gave a speech to the crowd about the importance of ending childhood hunger in America by making sure all children get the healthy food they need every day.
