Strange Brewing Company, Denver’s newest craft beer maker, opened for business Wednesday, pouring its Paint It Black Stout and Strange Pale Ale for friends, family and beer lovers who showed up to toast the place.
Located in a business park at 13th Avenue and Zuni Street, Strange was founded by two former Denver Newspaper Agency employees, Tim Meyers and John Fletcher, who were laid off shortly after the Rocky Mountain News its doors in early 2009.
And a few ex-Rocky staffers were on hand in Strange Brewing’s elegant but manly-looking tap room, drinking $5 pints in support of Meyers and Fletcher.
The opening was timed, in part, to happen during American Craft Beer Week, a coast-to-coast celebration of craft beer that runs May 17-23. Strange will tap a new keg each night for the rest of the week as part of the festivities.
