Politicians are people, too — often-dorky people. As evidence, check out a January 15 video from the Colorado House that was posted by FaceTheState.com. In it, Representative Mike Merrifield leads the “Capitol Choir” in a rousing version of “Happy Birthday” directed at legislators whose personal odometers have recently rolled over — including Merrifield himself. New Speaker of the House Terrance Carroll, who once participated in these sings, wiggles out of adding his voice to the mix, while Merrifield complains that the absence of former Rep Kevin Lundberg, now a state senator, leaves the group short a baritone bass. Somehow, though, the participants manage to get through the song anyway. But it’s touch and go for a while.
