Reader: The Amount Denver Rents Have Gone Up in a Year Is Insane

Talk about striking a chord. A recent Comment of the Day in which a reader argued that Denver’s rent prices are so high they’re pushing people into homelessness attracted hundreds upon hundreds of responses, with most of those weighing in sharing their own rent-hike experiences. Here’s a telling example.

When I was looking at apartments in 2013, rent was high but not unreasonable. Then my landlord raised the rent $264/month at renewal and I decided to look for another place. The difference in one year was insane! Hundreds of dollars higher, even in less desirable neighborhoods. I make enough to pay all my bills and still save but only because I live with my boyfriend (in Aurora). I couldn’t live here on my own, and I honestly wonder how others do it.
