Last month’s election in Denver wasn’t packed with surprises.
True, Tim O’Brien upset Chris Nevitt in the auditor’s contest. But Mayor Michael Hancock won reelection easily, as did clerk and recorder Debra Johnson, and Debbie Ortega, Paul López, Mary Beth Susman, Christopher Herndon and Albus Brooks retained their seats on the Denver City Council.
Four council competitions were forced into runoffs, however, and while the leading vote-getters in District 7, District 10 and District 11 prevailed in yesterday’s ballot-casting sequel, former Rocky Mountain News reporter and RTD spokesman Kevin Flynn came from behind (John Kidd had scored 33.9 percent of the vote first time around, as compared to Flynn’s 22.26 percent) to eke out a victory in District 2.
The result will be several new faces on the Denver City Council.
