As if drugs didn’t you make animalistic enough, there’s a new one on the market that will make a raccoon out of you. Or at least that’s the premise of a new horror flick from Monkey Angel Studios called Red Raccoon. The name comes from a drug that ravages whole populations, and once you ingest too much, you start to look like a red raccoon — eyes, ears, the whole bit — one that craves human flesh!
“I was the Flower Queen,” says Dea Webb, co-owner of local vinyl store/art gallery Plastic Chapel. “The costume designer took my outfit and made it into the entire room. Every time I moved, the wall moved, too.”
Webb and Plastic Chapel will host a pre-release party for the film, with spooky food and beverages to celebrate
Red Raccoon’s fantasy-turned-horror-based nature (watch the trippy trailer at www.monkeyangel.com). Clips from the film will be shown during the event. Movie-related work by local artists, as well as actual items from the movie itself, like drawings and a sculpted mask, will also be on hand.
Red Raccoon is the fourth movie produced by Monkey Angel Studios, whose second film, Hannah House, is said to have a considerable cult following in Russia.
The pre-release party begins at 7 p.m. at Plastic Chapel, 3109 East Colfax Avenue. Screening times and locations for Red Raccoon will be announced during the evening.
