In a salute to the Cajun and Creole traditions, the Colorado Friends of Cajun and Zydeco Music and Dance are presenting the Louisiana Creole Celebration, a two-day festival at Swallow Hill Music Association. This year’s tribute, it should be noted, is new and improved.
“We usually just have a yearly dance, but people don’t know what they’re hearing or why it’s special,” said CFCZ’s Hugh Robertson.
Today, you’ll find an 11:30 a.m. music workshop led by Creole accordion player Preston Frank and fiddle player Ed Poullard. At 4 p.m., Vivian Malveaux and Frank will lead a language workshop at the Alliance Française de Denver, 571 Galapago Street, exploring the differences between Creole French and standard French, followed by a “Song and Storytelling” presentation by Frank and Poullard.
The fest concludes on Sunday at the Mercury Cafe, 2199 California Street, with a 1 p.m. dance concert led by Poullard and Frank.
