As today’s Black Friday shopping showdown plays out in malls across the state, gift buyers can feel excited, overwhelmed and even fearful. But for the past half-decade, Buy Local Week has worked to ease that tension and shift the focus from big-box blowouts to a celebration of local retailers — and Cash Mobster will play a big part in that.

The first in a series of local-centric spotlights, Cash Mobster will allow shoppers to sign up for the “secret” incentives that one Denver-based business will be offering from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. today only. During this time, a text or e-mail will be sent out to registered “mobsters,” who will get one-of-a-kind deals on merchandise, plus free gift wrapping and more at the appointed store. “You don’t have to feel bad about wanting to shop on Black Friday, and we want to get the word out about how awesome it is to shop local,” says Adrienne Anderson of the Mile High Business Alliance, a Buy Local Week sponsor.

Today’s big deal will be located somewhere in the 1500 block of South Pearl Street, with more secret shopping scheduled for the Uptown area and East Colfax as Buy Local Week continues. To sign up for today’s Cash Mobster event or learn more about Buy Local-sponsored activities taking place throughout the holiday shopping season, visit www.coloradolocalfirst.com/cashmob.
