Remember when life was so hard that you had time to write about every waking moment of it in your journal? Megan Nyce does, and she wants you to relive those embarrassingly awesome middle- and high-school memories with her, on stage, in front of strangers. At tonight’s installment of My Teenage Angst, readers are encouraged to crack open old diaries and read the personal, word-for-word accounts of lost loves, favorite concert experiences and lunchroom frenemy blowouts captured in the innocent self-reflection of younger years.
This evening’s confessional is the third edition of the gathering, and Nyce says some participants’ diaries have developed a following, as listeners travel through bad-roommate sagas and teenage breakups along with the readers. “I don’t know who has more fun — the person reading or the people listening,” says Nyce of the candid moments shared among strangers.
Don’t have a journal? The entertainment also includes “Yearbook Serenade,” during which people are encouraged to share their old yearbooks — and someone from the audience is invited on stage to read awkward classmate dedications aloud.
