The hairiest, most slobbery and goofiest-looking canines will strut their stuff today at Worst in Show, a fundraiser for Freedom Service Dogs. Inspired by the cinematic wackiness of the 2000 movie Best in Show, this first edition of the local nonprofit’s beastly dog challenge is a gathering of only the best of the worst. “We had an open call for the worst dogs and were lucky to get a ton of entries,” jokes Karen Marrow of Freedom Service Dogs about the dozens of funny-lookers who will take the stage.
TV entertainment reporter Chris Parente, radio DJ Brett Saunders and the Gabby Gourmet, Pat Miller, will judge in categories like Cutest, Hairiest, Most Drool and Special Talent, but one big winner will go home with the ultimate title of Worst in Show. All money raised goes to FSD’s canine training programs, which cost upwards of $25,000 per rescue dog but are provided at no cost to disabled clients.
Worst in Show runs from 1 to 6 p.m. today at Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum, 7711 East Academy Boulevard. Tickets are $25 (and this is a people-only event, so please leave your furry friends at home). For tickets and information, visit freedomservicedogs.org or call 303-922-6231.
