For the grand opening of its new and improved studio and gallery space, Good Thieves Press is getting a little ghoulish. The artist collective is hosting an interactive open-studio tour called Monster Movie Madness, during which the group will provide spooky hand-screened zombie masks and paper puppets to go along with a new show of scary- and sci-fi-film-inspired poster prints. As a participant in the Month of Printmaking, the studio is just one of dozens of galleries and workshops hosting events all over the city in March and April, including today’s region-wide printmakers’ studio tour.
The Good Thieves crew is excited about getting folks into its much larger workspace to show off what they are all about: printmaking. Though the eight current members employ many different mediums, the co-op works collaboratively on printing projects.
“We want people to see what screen-printing looks like outside of just T-shirts,” says Martin Schneider, founding member and current artist at Good Thieves.
Good Thieves opens the doors of its new location, at 2045 Downing Street, today at 10 a.m., with printmaking demonstrations running throughout the day. From 5 to 10 p.m., the space will host a free reception for its new poster show. For more information, visit goodthievespress.com.
