The Significance of the Void Pirate: Contemporary Art June 27 through July 13 Opening reception: 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, June 27
RedLine resident Amber Cobb curated this emerging-artist showcase, which holds together with the theme of loss and yearning. And watch out: Jason García, Blanca Guerra, Lucas T. McMahon, Jenna Maurice and Debra Sanders are all names you will hear about in the future.

Attract/Retract/Attract Vertigo Art Space June 26 through August 2 Opening reception: 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 27
Three TANK Studio-mates — Theresa Clowes, Gretchen Marie Schaefer and Sarah Wallace Scott — share the space at Vertigo in a show that combines drawing, textiles and handmade paper with a sense of cycles within the natural world. Beauty is not always skin-deep.

Jordan Knecht’s installation animum explorari is a complicated thing: A room within a room, curtained in black, its walls are papered with intricate wheat-pasted risograph photo-collages involving printmaking and drawing. Once inside, you’ll have to look up, as there’s a circular drawing on the ceiling, and you’ll have to have a flashlight (part of a kit for viewers that also contains a monocular and magnifying glass) to activate sound elements.
The gallery recommends signing up in advance for this experience, no more than ten people will be admitted at a time; come back on July 5 for a twelve-hour live improvised music performance that takes the installation’s interactivity a step further.
