Colorado has a long, strange connection to LEGO blocks. In 1965, Denver company Samsonite built the first U.S. LEGO manufacturing plant in Loveland, and now the Louisville-based NetDevil is putting the finishing touches on the massive online game LEGO Universe.
Our LEGO lovin’ continues with a special event starting tomorrow at Denver Pavilions, 500 16th Street: the LEGO Games 2010 mobile tour, a free three-day showcase of LEGO’s new line of block-based board games.
It should be a LEGO maniac’s dream, what with its life-sized adapted versions of new LEGO board games (think Pictionary and dice games, but with – duh – LEGO bricks). You also get to meet an official LEGO Games Master, and can enter a chance to win a trip to LEGOLAND California by guessing the number of bricks in s 6-foot LEGO Minotaur model.
Of course, that begs the question: With our state’s storied LEGO past, isn’t it time they create a LEGOLAND Colorado? That would be sweet.
In the meantime, check out the LEGO fiesta tomorrow and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 12 noon to 6 p.m. It should be a blast — as long as nobody leaves their plastic bricks scattered all over the place. When stepped on, those little things can hurt like a bitch.
