Curious about what it takes to keep a coop full of chickens in your own back yard? The Denver Botanic Gardens and chicken-coop keepers around the city are here to enlighten you with a one-day tour of poultry-friendly living spaces. Today, interested parties can purchase a $20 map from the Gardens — which acts as a “ticket” for four people — and drive, bike or walk to more than two dozen Denver homes with hens.

Keepers will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. along the self-guided Denver Botanic Gardens Chicken Coop Tour to talk about coop maintenance, proper chicken care, city urban farming ordinances and how the birds can help keep a healthy garden. Proceeds from the maps will go toward funding the DBG’s educational programs, which communications editor David Rubin says are focused on sustain-ability.

Maps can be purchased in advance at www.botanicgardens.org or by calling 303-865-3500. After September 28, you can buy them at the Gardens, 1007 York Street.
