Last year, the Denver Children’s Advocacy Center, which serves low-income children who’ve been sexually abused, neglected or traumatized by witnessing violence, had real reason to celebrate: a new home in a beautifully restored Victorian at 2149 Federal Boulevard. This year’s gala, Extreme Makeover: Community Edition, continues building on the theme but moves outside and into the community. “This time, we’re honoring those people who have helped us along, fourteen individuals — from police chiefs to other political figures to community people — who’ve been true champions of children,” says Maria Yoos, the center’s development director. Bill and Jeannie Ritter are honorary chairs of the fundraiser, which includes a buffet dinner, cash bar, silent auction, performance by the Colorado Children’s Chorale, and plenty of shmoozing for a good cause. Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Police Protective Association Event Center, 2105 Decatur Street; tickets range from $55 (for seniors and city employees) to $120 at the door. For more information, go to www.denvercac.org or call 303-825-3850.

Sat., April 21, 6-10 p.m.
