The idea behind the Colorado Get Movin’ Challenge is simple: Participate in thirty minutes of activity every day for thirty days. But there’s more to the challenge than that. For instance, fitness first-timers will have a chance to win some cool prizes just for going for a walk, and everyone who hits the thirty-day mark will get a T-shirt. The more active you are, the more opportunities there are — to win ski passes, downtown Denver hotel stays, heart-rate monitors and more. “There are a lot of fitness challenges out there,” says Tracy Faigin Boyle of LiveWell Colorado, the organization behind this one. “We wanted to create one that involved everyone and was doable enough that the average Coloradan could participate.”

LiveWell Colorado works year-round to help local residents make healthy choices and take up an active lifestyle; the Colorado Get Movin’ Challenge is just one of its tools. But it’s a very useful one: Boyle says it was designed to encourage people who might wrongly believe that fitness takes a marathon runner’s commitment. Instead, they can just take things a day at a time.

The Colorado Get Movin’ Challenge kicks off today and runs through August 30; for more information, visit getmovingchallenge.org.
