“What always happens with Off-Center — which is both fun and terrifying — is that we have this initial inspiration, and then we bring a bunch of people together to make it happen,” says Charlie Miller, co-curator of Off-Center@The Jones. “But it is often not until it gets closer to the real show that we know what it really is.” It’s certainly getting close now, and Miller and co-curator Emily Tarquin will reveal their plans tonight for the 2013 season — which promises to be a bit scary, unexpected and, as always, non-traditional — at tonight’s Off-Center@The Jones Season Opening Party.

One of the shows that will return, with a few slight changes, is Cult Following, a live-movie-meets-improv performance. Also on the roster is a new audience-interactive event that Tarquin and Miller describe as “every game show ever” rolled into one — and it will push audience members to the limit in a quest for great prizes. Also new this season is a collaboration with local storytelling series The Narrators, in which scripts based on real-life tales from locals will be retold with surprise elements added.

This evening’s party will be a show in itself, with live trailers being presented for each production; DJ Chonz will be spinning tunes, and there will be free beer and a cash bar. It all starts at 8:30 p.m. at the Jones Theatre, in the Denver Performing Arts Complex; admission is also free. Find more information and purchase tickets for upcoming shows at denveroffcenter.org or call 303-893-6090.
