Fancy gourmet restaurants might have some tasty grub, but it’s tough to beat Mom’s home-cooked meals. It’s surprising, then, that women accounted for only about one-fifth of all executive chefs and head cooks in 2005, according to the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Females on Fire chips away at the gender disparity by hosting a five-course menu with wine pairings tonight at Jax Fish House, 1539 17th Street. The feast, which begins at 6 p.m., will be prepared by ten of Denver’s finest female chefs, including Jax’s own Sheila Lucero, and will benefit the Females on Fire Culinary Scholarship at Johnson & Wales University.

Females on Fire costs $100; Kathy Benzinger of the Benzinger family winery will make a special appearance, and Channel 7’s Anne Trujillo will emcee the event. Call 303-292-5767 or visit www.jaxfishhousedenver.com for tickets.
Tue., Sept. 26, 6 p.m.
