For some people, the best — and most frightening — thing about middle school was heading to the roller rink on a Friday night. Would your friends be there? Would they get along? Would your mom embarrass you? Would you be alone for the couples’skate? And while that nostalgia is fun, it’s difficult to head back there as an adult, since everyone knows that anyone at the rink over the age of fourteen is weird (aside from the DJ). Thankfully, Tracks and EXDO have teamed up to give adults just such a place.
Tonight, the monthly roller-skate and old-school hip-hop party goes cold and ugly in the best way, with Reeewind & Roll: Winter Wonderland. Ugly sweaters, ’80s ski gear and the classic Dad-drinking-spiked-eggnog-by-the-fire costumes are highly encouraged; prizes will be awarded for the best. And for non-skaters, the Tracks side of the venue will be playing shoe-friendly music to groove to. “It’s a fun party, where you can roller-skate and drink out of sippy cups,” says EXDO’s Ching Yuan Hu.
The party starts at 9 p.m. at EXDO/Tracks, 1399 35th Street; admission is $10 for those eighteen to twenty, free for 21 and up before 10 p.m. (with a $10 cover after 10). Or plan ahead: Advance tickets are available for just $5 at rolldenver.com.
