It’s not time for the Denver County Fair quite yet — that won’t happen until August 9-11 — but it’s time to start getting excited about it. To help you with your immediate pie cravings and future funnel-cake dreams, we present this year’s Denver County Fair poster, the third in a fun and funky series from Denver artist Mark Penner Howell. While last year’s (below) featured a goat and a young yellow chick, this year’s flips the chick theme upside down with Warby Parkers, a unicorn and what appears to be a Denver County Fair tattoo. The same new-but-retro vide radiating from this poster will be echoed at the National Western Complex in August through the addition of a Denver History Pavilion, which promises a dinosaur-dotted look at the famous facts and figures of the county throughout time.

Pooches — both prize-winning and otherwise — will also benefit from changes to this year’s fair. Although the event’s animal pavilion expanded just last year, it will grow again in August with a longer schedule of dog- and owner-friendly events. The same thing goes for the kids’ pavilion, which will share the spotlight with the 4-H pavilion at this year’s fair. And when all those new additions inevitably tire you out, you can cool down with a beer at one of the new beer events the fair also promises to add to this year’s schedule.
