Riva Sweetrocket’s lush pastels on paper — which look like oil paintings to the untrained eye — have been delighting Denverites for years. And she’ll undoubtedly pick up some new fans with her latest exhibit, Riva Sweetrocket: Extra Ordinary, which will be on display at the Denver Botanic Gardens, 1007 York Street, today through January 30, 2011. Sweetrocket’s work plays with the natural and manufactured worlds, juxtaposing images — and with Extra Ordinary, she takes that play to a whole new level. The heavily textured works seem to leap off the paper; they’re indeed extraordinary.

There will be a reception celebrating the show from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 2; to attend, send an RSVP to exhib-its@botanicgardens.org. The show continues through the end of January. Find out more about Sweetrocket and her work at www.sweetrocket.com.
