Presidential candidates such as Donald Trump and Chris Christie have declared their opposition to broader legalization of marijuana and used Colorado as an example of why additional states shouldn’t make such a move. But plenty of other observers are betting that limited marijuana sales will be approved by voters or legislators in…

A new report revealed that Denver was among the ten U.S. cities with the most red-light-related traffic deaths from 2004 to 2013. When we shared our post on the topic, we asked readers to tell us about any close calls. Plenty did — but the complaints didn’t end with behavior pertaining…
Last November, we told you about a video in which a Denver police officer could be seen punching a suspect six times in the face — and a pregnant woman being tripped. Now, the person who shot the clip — Levi Frasier — has filed a lawsuit against the City…
Among its many other travel-oriented lists, TripAdvisor features a ranking for America’s finest zoos. And two from Colorado made the top twenty. We bet you can guess which two zoos were included. But you may be surprised by how high one placed in comparison to the other. Check out the photo-illustrated…
Once again, the tranquility of an early morning in Denver has been shattered by gunfire. In the latest incident, a man was found shot — and while emergency responders raced him to a nearby hospital, he didn’t survive the wounds. Moreover, investigators have released no suspect information at this writing…
It could have been so much worse. Early yesterday morning, Jazmine Ramos, eleven, was shot outside her home on 47th Avenue between Race and High streets in the Elyria Swansea neighborhood — the apparent victim of a stray bullet. Fortunately, Jazmine was struck in the leg rather than another more vulnerable…
A lot of folks who commented on our post about the State of Colorado’s suggestion that marijuana edibles be stamped with a red stop sign emblazoned with the letters “THC” scoffed at the notion. Not all of them, though. The following reader sees this as a great idea and describes…
Denver blog posts aren’t written by He Who Shall Not Be Named. At our Food & Drink blog, Jonathan Shikes writes about Warner Bros. opposing three Hogshead Brewery trademarks — because there’s a Hog’s Head Pub at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park. Colorado Pols checks “The Dropout Clock:…
If they’re convicted, Alese Silva and Ivan Lopez could be put away for quite a long time over a crime that netted a very small reward: a car they drove for only a short distance and $80 in cash. The pair are accused of kidnapping two people over this sum…
Last night, gunfire erupted in an apartment complex in Aurora. When police arrived, the victim, who’d been hit multiple times, was still alive. Unfortunately, he subsequently succumbed to his injuries according to an Aurora Police Department announcement shared early this morning. And at this writing, law enforcers haven’t released any…

Yesterday, our Alan Prendergast wrote about the environmental disaster on the Animas River, caused by the Environmental Protection Agency’s accidental release of mining wastewater measured in the millions of gallons — and noted that the situation was many years in the making. The following month, The Hateful Eight (Tarantino’s eighth flick, appropriately enough) was officially approved to shoot in the state — specifically the Schmid Ranch outside Telluride. Over the months that followed,…
A comment has definitely hit a nerve if it spawns dozens of responses. That was the case with a post on our report about Go Topless Fort Collins’ campaign to decriminalize the female breast — by demanding that city officials remove references to breasts from FoCo’s public-indecency ordinance. What did…
