While there are dozens of ways to ingest your cannabis, the most common (and classic) way is to roll yourself a number, light it and burn it down to the end. Unfortunately, some people have yet to master that skill and are still rolling pregnant dolphins. So to help, we’ve…
At noon, two days after a Senate committee voted to approve a bill allowing same-sex civil unions, a sizable crowd of “pro-marriage” supporters rallied on the steps of the State Capitol building. A similar gathering took place in May last year following the failure of another civil union bill. But…
Last week, Denver Police officer Robert Motyka was shot amid a police chase in which one suspect was killed and four others were arrested. Now, the Denver DA’s Office has released one of this quartet but charged the other three — Chuck Montoya, Jude Montoya and Michael Valdez — with…

The residents of a Jefferson County neighborhood got the shock — or maybe we should say schmuck — of their lives when a slew of officers from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and other agencies swooped in on a nearby home. And they had good reason, according…
Occupy Denver may no longer be making headlines, but at least one city official is still talking about the protesters — specifically law enforcement’s role in a violent confrontation. A recent report from the Office of the Independent Monitor, the city’s official watchdog, says Denver Police and the Department of…
Colorado’s Catholic bishops say they will “undertake a full review” of a lawsuit in which Catholic Health Initiatives, an Englewood-based operator of 78 Catholic hospitals in seventeen states, has argued that it can’t be held liable for the deaths of two unborn babies because fetuses are not people. The bishops…
Yesterday, Melanie Asmar wrote about a proposal by Representative Frank McNulty, ex-speaker of the Colorado House, to change the way the insanity defense is handled — placing the burden of proof on the defendant rather than the state. Despite the prospect of accused Aurora theater shooter James Holmes deploying this…

With the public speaking out overwhelmingly against hydraulic fracturing in Boulder County, the board of commissioners voted unanimously to temporarily extend the existing moratorium on processing drill permits until June 10, 2013. And while the decision didn’t please everyone, many saw it as a step in the right direction. “Extend…
Next week’s edition of The Onion will be the last in Denver, thanks to the Denver Post’s decision to stop printing the paper. To mark this awful sign of the times, and to echo Onion CEO Steve Hannah’s call for local readers to switch to the web version, we’ve photo-illustrated…

I would love to say there was another reason for my visiting Nature’s Cure III on Colfax, but there just isn’t. The shop isn’t really known for much more than rock-bottom pricing on their buds, and there’s often a line to get in — so I figured I’d finally make…
Former Colorado Governor Dick Lamm is one of more than a hundred officials, public leaders and organizations to sign on to the so-called Colorado Compact on immigration — an effort Senator Michael Bennet is spearheading. But Lamm, who has in the past made some attention-getting statements on immigration, says he…
