Eric Swanson’s troubled past caught up with him last week in an Arapahoe County courtroom — although not with quite the vengeance prosecutors had in mind. At one point facing habitual criminal charges and a potential 64-year-sentence for a case that began as a municipal summons for harassment, Swanson received…
Denver blog posts believe the children are our future. Mile High Report’s Scotty Payne ranks the top candidates for MVP consideration at approximately the midpoint in the NFL season — and he gives Peyton Manning a very good chance to earn his fifth. Big Media’s Jason Salzman on the vast…
Election day is finally here — and with it comes the news that Secretary of State Scott Gessler, Colorado’s chief election officer, is facing both criminal and ethics investigations. Last month, a watchdog group accused Gessler of misusing state funds for his personal travels, and now it appears that both…
In our post about the 47 homicides in Denver last year, we were unable to include a Google map showing where Manuel Martinez, 27, died last November, because the report from the Denver coroner’s office didn’t list a location. But now, we know much more about his head-shot slaying and…
Sam Levin’s post about Vice President Joe Biden’s Arvada appearance, during which he portrayed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney as a liar who doesn’t believe in the average American, prompted a wide range of reactions. Here’s two that are about as far apart as can be imagined…

Many, many people are watching the polls today to make sure there’s no funny business. And if there’s any doubt about the Denver Elections Division, here’s proof the staff is on high alert: Division personnel had to assure a poll worker that a young lady wearing an MIT sweatshirt was…
In recent years, accused cancer fakers such as Tausha Marsh and Ann Crall have allegedly collected thousands by pretending to have a terminal illness. All of which makes the case of Briana Augustenborg that much more bizarre. She’s said to have hyped up a case of leukemia for a nonexistent…
At last it’s election day, and the end of a very long nightmare — by which I mean being inundated by the campaign, which has focused more than ever before on Colorado. As proof, peruse the following collection of random Colorado-centric items touting the candidates. What are the tackiest? We…

Hundreds more will also be dispatched throughout the state with the central mission of protecting voter’s rights. And part of…
The scenario instantly recalled Jessica Ridgeway’s disappearance, except multiplied: In Greeley, four girls between the ages of five and twelve vanished, prompting a desperate search. In this case, fortunately, the four girls were found and returned to their homes — but not before one of them allegedly suffered a sexual…
Alex Martinez, Denver’s Manager of Safety, does not want to weigh in on the policy debates around Amendment 64, the Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Act, which has only added to the national attention Colorado is getting this election. But, he tells us, one thing is clear: If it passes, there’s…

In a race that remains very much a toss-up mere hours before election day, both sides can agree that a very small margin of voters will decide whether Colorado goes red or blue tomorrow. It is for that reason that some Republican Party officials in the state say they’re particularly…

But this weekend, Biden appeared before hundreds in Arvada, delivering a lengthy, zinger-filled…
On the eve of the election, we decided to juxtapose positive Barack Obama memes with ones boosting Mitt Romney. But there was a problem: Pro-Romney memes are tougher to find than a Mensa candidate on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. So instead, the President will be facing off against…himself, via…
