Wazee Wood Fire Pizza, Charlie Palmer’s new piehole emporium, opens Monday, December 12, directly next door to District Meats, Palmer’s shrine to off-cuts that he opened November 21 in the former Big Game space at 1631 Wazee Street.
The pizza palace, which resides in Big Game’s old bar space, will dish out sandwiches and salads and toss artisan pies — whole and by the slice — topped with fresh ingredients. Denver can expect pizzas “made with high-quality ingredients, Caputo ’00’ flour, fresh herbs, San Marzano tomatoes and housemade mozzarella,” Palmer told me back in October. The space, which has shelves bedecked with Italian products, a large oven and rustic wooden tables surrounded by tractor seats, will be open from 11 a.m to close Monday through Saturday.
In the meantime, District Meats, which turns out dinner Monday through Friday, has started lunch service from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
