Intentionally recorded in super-lo-fi mode, Already Dead’s I Want to See You Rot delivers the kind of sound that will never be fully appropriated by the mainstream. Though musically different from early black-metal efforts such as Mayhem’s Deathcrush EP, Already Dead’s project rivals that one in its rawness. On “Joke,” the warping, urgent bass line and a desperate, Wipers-esque guitar tone bury the vocals, and on “Rot,” the singing is feral, akin to that of John Brannon circa his time in Negative-Approach. I Want to See You Rot sounds like an ancient tape that was discovered in the basement of a house on the edge of town, twenty years after some forgotten cult band had practiced there.
