When Armida’s first started hosting karaoke about two decades ago, it was one night a week. Since then, it’s become the Mexican restaurant’s main focus seven nights a week. Karaoke has become so popular, in fact, especially on weekends, that the spot opened another karaoke room on the second floor and made some upgrades to the first floor that included moving the stage, putting in new chairs, tables and high tables around the edges to give the room a better flow.

The new room upstairs, which also has its own bar, can accommodate around thirty people, while the main floor karaoke room can fit around seventy folks, says Abel Corral, whose parents own the venue. The upstairs room opens at 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and the main floor karaoke starts up at 4 p.m. (it used to start at 6 p.m.) as soon as the restaurant opens. There’s also a happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. that includes two-for-one on any drink or beer, as well as half off anything on the food menu. The place obviously gets busy in the evenings, so Corral suggests coming in earlier to anyone who wants to get the chance to sing more songs.
