To see some really innovative DJs, sometimes you have to go to non-traditional venues — like a bowling alley on a Tuesday night. That’s where you’ll find DJ Soup, last year’s Showcase winner for best non-traditional DJ and one of Denver’s most exciting talents behind the decks. Soup got his start as a straightahead house DJ, but his eclectic taste drove him to incorporate other styles into his wild, free-for-all sound. Soup’s sets are a wide-open mix of funky and electro house, classic hip-hop, classic rock and a bit of top 40 — plus whatever else he’s currently into. After ten years of spinning, he’s taking the next step and moving into production and remixing; look for the upcoming remix EP for dance-punk provocateurs Ideal Fathers to open up new avenues for this talent. In the meantime, catch him on Tuesday, July 21, at Lucky Strike Lanes in the Denver Pavilions.
