I like it weird. I like the twisted, dirty, completely gonzo sounds that a good producer can squeeze out of an old synthesizer or a brand-new DSP package. And I love a DJ who can recognize the best tracks that use those sounds and build great mixes from them. Finding such an artist is always cause for joy, so I’m happy to have discovered Habersham. Working in a realm somewhere between techno and progressive house, Habersham is a master of melding far-out, freaky sounds into tight, cohesive tracks and expansive, mind-bending mixes. He also likes to incorporate breaks, broken beats and even the occasional pretty pad sound or funky riff. The results are impressive, whether he’s spinning or making records. A favorite of top DJs such as John Digweed and Danny Howells (he contributed two stellar mixes to the former’s Transitions radio show), Habersham makes his first Denver appearance this Saturday, July 26, at Owsley’s Golden Road.
