You have only one night — Thursday, September 7, at the Boulder Theater — to absorb The Theory of Everything. The evening of improvisational music mates five of Boulders favorite genre-jamming sons: Kyle Hollingsworth (pictured) and Michael Kang of the String Cheese Incident; soon-to-be-departed Leftover Salmon bassist Tye North; Tony Furtado Band guitarist Ross Martin; and drummer Dave Watts of the Motet. Through sprawling, off-the-cuff originals and twisted variations on standards, the Theory of Everything promises a bit of almost everything as it moves from bluegrass and country to folk and rock with a stubborn resistance to settling on any one sound. Though the players are certainly not strangers to one another — having participated together in the Nederland Acid Jazz series — Thursdays performance is the first of its kind, a stylistic work in progress. Like any theory, its one to be tested, but its certain to make for a fun experiment along the way.
