Buffalo, New York’s It Dies Today takes inspiration from a strikingly wide range of sources. For instance, The Caitiff Choir, the five-piece’s 2004 disc, is named for a passage from Dante’s Divine Comedy (“Commingled are they with that caitiff choir/Of angels, who have not rebellious been/Nor faithful were to God, but were for self”) — yet it also includes “Freak Gasoline Fight Accident,” whose title references a gag from a notably less divine comedy, the Ben Stiller flick Zoolander. The band’s sound goes for incongruous juxtapositions, too, as witnessed by “Sacred Heart (Sacre Coeur),” from 2006’s Sirens, which opens with singer Jason Wood’s most slobber-heavy roaring before transitioning to a harmony-drenched chorus capable of hitting the sweet spot of an arena-rock fan. Oh, yeah: The group’s also covered Depeche Mode, recording “Enjoy the Silence” for Showtime’s Masters of Horror series. Clearly, It Dies Today, which is joined on this bill by Kittie, Silent Civilian, Bring Me the Horizon and Blessed by a Bro, is open to any and all influences, be they sacred or profane.
