On her 2012 debut, Snapshot, Katie Glassman, who has won numerous fiddling championships, clearly showed she knew her way around Western swing, vintage jazz and bluegrass. On her eleven-song sophomore release, Dream a Little Dream, Glassman is more refined both musically and vocally, leaning more toward Western swing with her group Snapshot. That group includes pianist/accordionist Eric Moon, bassist Charlie Mertens and guitarist Greg Schochet. The album kicks off with a revved-up rendition of “Liza Jane” that captures some of the same energy as the one by Bob Willis and His Texas Playboys. The swing reaches a fine pace on “I Don’t Care If the Sun Don’t Shine” (made famous by Patti Page) and the instrumental “Pampas Envy,” while “Sweet Lies” is a slow and wistful country number. Meanwhile, “Tryin’ to Get to You” finds Glassman and crew digging into some honky-tonk.
