On “This Charade,” the opening cut on Laroy & Co’s Worth Reckoning, the trio unleashes a flurry of Rodrigo y Gabriela-esque Spanish guitar before settling into a medium-tempo backbeat. During the Spanish-tinged solo, frontman Jason Laroy Boudreau proves he knows his way around the fretboard, a skill that’s further evidenced by a second solo on “In Your Hands.” Elsewhere, the band delves into a Dave Matthews-type groove on “End of Our Time,” while “Apples” is a heavier instrumental. Some of the cuts on this acoustic-driven disc deal with death and rising up from the ashes of a failed marriage, but there’s also an underlying theme of redemption that threads the songs together.
