Le Tigre made feminism, leftist politics and sexuality seem fun and confrontational at the same time, and the act’s mixture of electronic music and rock crystallized during its live shows. When Le Tigre went on temporary hiatus in 2007, JD Samson and Johanna Fateman started MEN as a DJ and remix project. Over the course of the next few years, MEN evolved into a dance-oriented electronica band lyrically tackling similar issues as Le Tigre. Also a visual artist, Samson incorporates multimedia elements in the band’s shows ,and you never quite know what’s in store. With Michael O’Neill of Ladybug Transistor and Ginger Brooks Takashi on board, and with Fateman having stepped out of her role as a live performer, MEN has become a decidedly more visceral force, crafting righteous disco jams.
