Although its moniker might imply a sound that’s massive and earthshaking, Seismic Event’s alt-rock is tamer than a defanged tiger. Just the same, even though the band splits the difference between acts like Kings of Leon and the Fray, the seven songs here aren’t necessarily wimpy. Frontman Tyrel Sloan’s vocals recall those of Caleb Followill on the opening cut, “Lion Tamer,” and Isaac Slade’s on tracks like “What Was Once.” Seismic Event started as a duo three years ago and gradually ballooned into a six-piece that now includes two guitarists and a keyboardist, who helps beef things up without overpowering them. While these tunes aren’t likely to get any heads banging, they have the potential to at least perk up a few ears locally.
