If the ThreadBarons’ moniker is a play on the word “threadbare,” it fits the weathered Americana made by the Denver quartet. On this self-titled disc, the act takes a well-worn, no-bullshit approach, injecting a mid-tempo country shuffle on tunes like “Window in the Winter” and “West Virginia” — the latter of which features fiddle playing from Violent Femmes frontman Gordon Gano, who also plays on two other tracks — and digging into slow rockers like “Don’t Want to Hurt (Like That No More).” The album is a mix of poignant tunes and catchy numbers, including “Keep on Moving,” which features the warm singing of keyboardist Jennifer Braid, who shares lead-vocal duties on The ThreadBarons with drummer Dan Sidor and bassist Daniel Putrino.
