With a career that spans over six decades, Mavis Staples (appearing tonight with Dr. John & the Lower 911 at the Botanic Gardens) doesn’t need much of an introduction. The Rock And Roll Hall of Famer began her gospel-influenced singing career as part of the Staple Singers family institution in the 1950s and hasn’t stopped making powerful music since.

Working closely with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, who produced and helped write her latest effort, 2010’s You Are Not Alone, Staples continues to gather new legions of fans with her unbreakable voice and the undeniable soul she displays. This show is all-ages, and tickets are $56-$61. Doors open at 6 p.m., and performances begin at 7.
