It seems Dallas quartet Old 97’s (playing the Bluebird Theater tonight with Sarah Jaffe) began long before the term alt-country was even a thought. But less along the gothic style associated with the genre, the Old 97’s are more pop-oriented, carried by vocalist Rhett Miller’s radio-friendly twang.

Readying the release of its fifteenth record — a second volume of greatest hits — in July, Old 97’s have yet to take a break in almost two decades as a band. This evening’s performance is the first of two nights the group will spend in Denver, giving fans the full advantage of hearing all the favorites from Miller and company’s vast, modern country catalogue. This show is 16-and-up, and tickets are $24-$26 ($44 for a two-day pass). Doors open at 7 p.m., and performances begin at 8.
