Elsewhere, he blends some additional vocal turns, on the Mike Nesmith cover “Some of Shelly’s Blues” and a new version of “Staggerlee,” with figurative excursions to locales such as Ireland (the Celtic-influenced “Tinker’s Fancy”) and Appalachia (the slide-heavy “Kentucky Stripmine”). American Gypsy tends to roam, but it always feels like home.
