Chrysalis Graduates Two More

Chrysalis, a social services program managed by Lois Clayton (pictured) that tries to get drug-addicted prostitutes off the streets and off drugs (profiled in this Westword feature), will graduate two participants from its intensive program today despite recent financial woes. Until recently, the program — which consists of psychotherapy, addiction counseling, life skills classes and job-readiness training – was run through the city of Denver with a federal grant of about $85,000 a year. But now the federal money recently dried up, leaving Chrysalis’ future uncertain.

The Empowerment Program, which administers the Chrysalis Project, is still working to keep women off the streets, albeit with reduced services and a smaller staff until they can backfill the funding holes. If they can raise the money. –Luke Turf
