This morning, I can definitely identify with the concept of a crime happening close to home.
During the wee hours, a clerk was shot during a robbery attempt at a Diamond Shamrock Corner Store across the street from Westword‘s 969 Broadway offices — and at this writing, the gunman is still at large.
It was clear from the jump that something unusual was going on.
As I pulled into Westword‘s parking lot at about 4:35 a.m., I found a CBS4 vehicle in a space very close to mine, with a camera set up and ready for a live update.

Inside the vehicle was CBS4 correspondent Shawn Chitnis, who kindly offered me a preview of the report he would soon offer viewers of the station’s morning-news program.
According to Chitnis, the robbery took place shortly after 1 a.m. at the Diamond Shamrock, located on the northwest corner of 10th and Broadway.
A clerk was shot in the incident.
Fortunately, he suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Chitnis added that the shooting is particularly concerning to authorities because there have been other recent robberies in the area — meaning, presumably, that cops fear it could be part of a pattern.
At this writing, however, the Denver Police Department hasn’t tweeted about what went down — and neither have the cops shared a description of the gunman.
Just another Monday morning in Denver, Colorado. Here’s a video about the crime courtesy of 7News.
