Jamie Paulin-Ramirez sentenced for schmucky support of terrorist “Jihad Jane”

In 2010, mom and onetime Leadville resident Jamie Paulin-Ramirez was indicted for giving material support to terrorists — among them Colleen LaRose, also known as “Jihad Jane.”

Eventually, Paulin-Ramirez started singing about LaRose, as well as her hubby, an Algerian terrorist. But the tune only went so far considering that she’d taken her six-year-old son with her to the dark side; he was reportedly trained to kill non-Muslims. How much time did this schmuck get? As noted by the U.S. Attorneys Office in Colorado, Paulin-Ramirez pleaded guilty way back in March 2011 to a slew of allegations in her original indictment, on view below in its entirety.

Prosecutors maintained that Paulin-Ramirez, LaRose and others “conspired to obtain military-style training in South Asia and then traveled to and around Europe to participate in, and in support of, violent jihad.”

Evidence included electronic communications from July 2009 in which the man Paulin-Ramirez would marry — he’s identified only as “CC#2” — wrote about recruiting “some brothers that can travel freely…with eu passports…. [A]nd I also need some sisters too.” He added that “sister fatima will be in charge of other sister care…. [W]e have already organized everything for her…. [W]e are will[ing] to die in order to protect her no matter what the risk is.”

Around that time, LaRose invited Paulin-Ramirez to join her at a terrorist training camp in Europe, and the Colorado mom didn’t let the fact that she had a little one in her care stop her from accepting the deal. In September, she and the boy traveled to Ireland — and a day after her arrival, she married CC#2 in an Islamic ceremony.

This union may or may not have produced the possibility of another junior revolutionary. According to the U.K. Daily Mail, Paulin-Ramirez was with child when she was busted, although her attorney said she lost the pregnancy.

In addition, Paulin-Ramirez was initially thought to have been part of a plot to murder Lars Vilks, a Swedish cartoonist marked for elimination because he’d had the nerve to draw the prophet Mohammed with a dog’s body. Her attorney denied that, however, portraying her as more of a dupe that a conspiracist.

She’ll have plenty of time to muse on her actions. Paulin-Ramirez has been sentenced to eight years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. Additionally, she must pay a $2,500 fine, plus $100 labeled as a “special assessment.”

If she’d done a little more special assessing a few years back, she might have avoided becoming our latest Schmuck of the Week.
